George's Barbershop History
George’s Barbershop has been part of Prince George’s story since 1964, when George Blanis — known throughout the community as George “The Barber” — opened the shop after immigrating from Greece with a dream of building his own barbershop. Having learned the craft alongside his father back home, George brought traditional barbering skills, dedication, and a strong work ethic to the city he would soon call home. What began as cutting hair while working at the railway quickly grew into a lifelong career when he opened his shop inside the old Simon Fraser Hotel, where he served generations of clients for more than 50 years.
George became a true local institution, known not just for his skill but for the relationships he built in the chair. In 2019, Shannon proudly purchased the shop, continuing George’s legacy of classic barbering, honest service, and community connection. Today, George’s Barbershop remains rooted in its history while carrying forward the timeless cuts and welcoming atmosphere that made George “The Barber” a Prince George legend.
